Evening 10 May 2009

Hello all,

Tonight nice weather brought out a bumper field, including a number of new faces all willing to see if this game is one for them. Welcome to the sport of time trials!

The warm temps of around 19ÂșC and no breeze promised to give some quick times.

Fastest on the night was Ross Clarke (Team Milton Keynes), who was comfortably half a minute in front of Julian Smith, riding for the first time this year and already quicker than last year and his second fastest ever on the course. 3rd place was Jonathan Shubert (Verulam CC), a quarter of a minute further down, with Gavin Atkins the same gap back in 4th.

On handicap, with several PB's being produced it was a hard fought battle, this time won by Duncan Knight, with a near 40 second PB beating Kalvin White by 4 seconds after Kalvin PB's by 35 seconds. Another 6 seconds back with another 30 second PB was Richard Greaves, and James Conibear just failed to beat him after he produced his best on the course by 22 seconds too. Marc Darvell was the 5th rider to PB and gained 5th on handicap.

Thanks go to Jonathan James for marshalling the Turn, John Lacey for doing Dagnall, and Keith Fletcher for pushing off, with Bob Clark and Dave Rogers supplying the timekeeping.

Next week on the marshalling rota it's the turn of Richard Boley, Mel and James Conibear and David Taylor.

Next week due to the elections, it's likely we will have to move the HQ to the village school in the centre of Great Gaddesden - this is still to be confirmed (they are on holiday this week) but we have normally used it with no problems, so assume it is OK. I will put a confirmation on the forum once we hear.

Speaking of the forum, We started a thread for people to say what events they are going to ride, so we can try to co-ordinate things, but so far very few have been saying what they are doing. Please don't keep it a secret - it really does help with the club camaraderie to share information (and that goes for those doing road races and triathlons, etc. too).

Finally we must say a massive congratulations to Conor Dunne who won the Silver medal at the Junior 10 mile TT champs last weekend, and also the fastest 17 year old. This is the first national medal in the club since Jon Hunt won the junior 25 mile champs and junior BBAR in 1993. Well done Conor!

Paul
