Regular activities

Day Event Notes
Monday Turbo Session As per club social rides
Wednesdays Swim Session Sports Space, Hemel Hempstead 8:00 pm
Weekends Bike Rides As per club social rides

Most of us make good use of the Forum to coordinate our training activities and race plans and to offer each other support and guidance, so please take a look at the multisports section in the Forum to get a feel for our little community.

Swim Sessions

Many of the group get together for swim training at Sports Space, Hemel Hempstead on a Wednesday evening. Start time is 8:00 pm. A programme is provided and also a bit of individual help for anyone who needs it.

During the summer we might switch the session to an open water venue. From May to September, we swim in the lake at Denham Waterski Centre, UB9 5HE, early on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

Bike Training

For bike training, we just join in with the general club rides, training and events.

Run Training

Much of our run training is done solo, although people do train together on an ad hoc basis, and some of us also belong to local running and athletics clubs.

Recent Successes

For a club with quite a small group of triathletes, we manage some good turnouts at local events, e.g. the Big Cow Sprint at Emberton in May and the Bedford Autumn Sprint in Sep/Oct, and have also enjoyed some great results in the last few seasons.

In 2009, two of our members, Mike Orton and Harvey Bennett, went to the Gold Coast to represent GB in the World Champs, and Mike was the top-finishing Brit in the 50-54 age group. Another member, Sam Williamson, won the Big Woody Ironman in August.

In 2008, Andrzej Bojarski represented GB in the World Long Distance Duathlon Champs and came 7th in his age group. Rob Hill, a very promising junior elite triathlete, is also a member. And we have several other strong performers.

But don’t worry if you’re not quite up to this sort of standard, because we also have some very average performers amongst our ranks – like me!
