This year we once again are planning on running a full season of Club 10 mile time trials starting on 25th April through to 22nd August. The only exception being the hilly circuits on the Thursday in June nearest the longest day (20 June in 2019).
HQ is Great Gaddesden Parish Hall on the A4146 North of Hemel.
How to enter
Entry on the day is open to all (with preference to club members).
Turn up at least half an hour before to sign up for a ride. Cost is £3 for HHCC members and £4 for non HHC members.
For those of you who ride these events (& I do recommend them to everyone) we run several competitions during the year using these events for full HHCC members.
The 2 main competitions are based on a points system on the finishing positions on both scratch & handicap on each of the 10 mile events. The points are 20 for 1st place down to 2 for 19th, and 1 point for every other finisher. Your best 10 scoring events are then totalled. As there are 17 events that you can ride (plus the hilly) you can afford to not ride some or discard some lower scores.
On Scratch there is a separate competition for men and women, each having the top 20 with their own points. The Handicap is fought between all members.
The Veterans also have a season long competition to find the one achieving the best time on Vet’s Standard (a kind of handicapping based on age 40+)
There is also a Longmarker event (usually held as the 2nd club 10 of the season ) where anyone who has not gone faster than 25 mins in the club events in recent years qualifies & the fastest of those wins.
And then, when we have dialled in everyone's handicap, we have the Handicap 10 in August where the fastest on handicap wins.
It is expected that everyone does their share of helping out at the events at some point during the season. There is a requirement for at least one each of the following people at every event: Time Keeper, Start holder (Pusher), Dagnall marshal (and preferably 2) & turn marshal. We normally need 2 timekeepers too - one to be at the start and one for the finish.
Andrew Bradley will create and distribute a marshalling rota by late March/early April. Please make a note of your allocations and check your availability. Note - if you cannot do the day allocated to you then you must arrange a replacement, then inform Andrew of the change.
This is a popular end of season club event to be held on Sunday 6th October 2019 at 10:00am. It's held up the relatively easy Ivinghoe Beacon so a good test for everybody. The start is on the B489, starting opposite the Ivinghoe Aston junction, before sweeping along the B489 to the left turn onto the climb proper, then it's a short trip up to the 's' bends, blast up the steep bit and finish just before the top cattle grid, a distance of 1.5 miles.
Most people will get under 9 minutes, if you want to be up with the fast boys and girls then 5 minutes is competititive with 4:14 being the best time in the last 20 years. Get practicing.
Open to all, club members and friends. Cost is £3 for HHCC members and £4 for non HHCC members. Just turn up and enter on the day.
