HHCC Reliability Ride 2001
The Chiltern Classics Reliability Rides got off to a wet start on Sunday 4 February with our own event. The heavy and prolonged rain deterred many riders from starting, with just 31 people undertaking the 100km route and only six people riding the 50km route. , Flooded roads were an inevitable feature, along with a high risk of puncturing.
Congratulations to 13 year-old Adam Harris who helped is mum, Janet, pedal their tandem round the 50km course. Also completing the 50km course from the club were Nigel Goffin and Roger Manley. The route took them across the hills via Ley Hill, Chesham and Bellingdon as far as St. Leonards, returning through Chartridge, Chesham, along the Chess Valley before returning over the hills via Belsize, Chipperfield and Kings Langley.
Tim Hart backed out of the 100km event with some rather weak excuses and then proceeded to make more out of the 50km route than was intended by the organisers: he carried on along the 100km route until Butlers Cross, whereupon he took a left turn to Gt. Missenden to rejoin the 100km route for the return. Strange chap.
Taking part in the 100km ride were David Rogers, Colin Williamson, Hector Selth, Stewart Boucher and Giles Haley.
