L'Etape du Tour 2000
In July 2000 eight members of the Club travelled to Provence in Southern France to take part in the 7th edition of the annual Etape du Tour, an event open to amateurs that gives them the opportunity to ride a stage of the Tour de France along the very same roads as the world's top cyclists. , In the process they managed to raise Â£1860 for two charities through individual sponsorship.
The 2000 event was to follow the route of stage 10 of the Le Grand Boucle, from Carpentras to the summit of Mont Ventoux.
Making the 750 mile journey to take part were Roger Manley, Hector Selth, Bob Chandler, Colin Williamson, Steve Buckle, Mark Carden, Paul Thomson and Tim Hart.
