Welcome to 2015
I feel somewhat privileged to have been elected as chairman of such a friendly and active club. Having joined over 30 years ago as an 18-year-old, I have seen it change with the times, with both membership and participation in club events rising and falling, reflecting the sport’s popularity amongst the British public over the years. I think it is safe to say that today the club is as healthy as it ever was in my 30+ years, with a large adult membership, a fantastic “Go Ride” youth section, an expanded list of rides and events, and participations levels consistently higher than I can remember. What makes this possible is the enthusiasm, willingness and dedication of a number of our members who give up their time to take on the tasks of administration and organisation, and a membership who take part with a spirit of mutual respect, support and collaboration that creates camaraderie and is essential for safe cycling. We are very lucky to have people who have served for many years in one capacity or another, doing the work that is needed so that others can enjoy participating. And it is heartening to see new faces helping to keep things moving forwards. I thank our committee members, organisers, assistants and ride leaders for all of their hard work – without them we wouldn’t have a club.
Best wishes for the New Year to all of our members, and safe cycling,
