Looking For New Racing Wheels

Postby Rob Hill » Thu Feb 05, 2009 5:53 pm

Hi everyone,

I don't really know much about choosing bike wheels so any advice I can get would be much appreciated. I've found some Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL 09's for £680

I will only be using these wheels for racing, and that will mainly be Triathlon racing. I'm not looking at racing on really hilly courses but there will be a few hills that i will have to climb with the wheels. Also, I would like to stick to alloy braking surfaces because of all the hassle of changing the brake pads all the time (when switching between training and racing wheels) - but I would happily change my mind if anyone can give me a good reason to have carbon rims.

Are the Mavics any good? are worth the money? are they too heavy (1740g)? or are there better wheels for a similar or lower price?

Thanks,
Rob

Mavic carbon Cosmic's are traditionally bombproof, solid but considered very quick wheels. You could certainly do worse than choosing them.
