Central Lge Round 10 - 6 Jan

Postby Paul Thomson » Wed Dec 12, 2012 11:52 am

OK guys, Seems like the original venue is not available...
So they are looking around for suitable ones and one of the first choices is Cullum - again.
I have stated that the Hemel riders were not that keen on the course but I am struggling to give precise reasons, just in case it's something we can fix.

Alternate venues are being looked at but yet to be confirmed are available. Oxford Brookes Uni (where a round was held last year) and Campbell Park MK are in the frame. My preference if it's available would be the MK one. Note that is close to the shopping centre, not at the Bowl.

If you know of any other suitable venues then let me know asap - we need to decide by Sunday latest to announce it at Hillingdon.

Also they are looking for volunteers to help with set-up, catering (if poss), breakdown etc.
I have offerred to help do the results and have kinda volunteered you lot to help with breakdown, but other help would be nice. I know some of that may be dependant on venue but what say you?

Feedback on Cullum course is wanted of course too.

Paul,

I think if it were to be at Culham again Tom and I would probably DNS - the Culham course is based around a disused gravel pit so lots of sandy mud (freshly mixed mortar as Giles put it) with a few unimaginative zig-zags around the flat grass area adjacent and no real technical stuff or opportunities for adding 'interest'. Also, the venue lacks any proper facilities and could be very bleak in early January.

If I had to rank the courses we've ridden this year the list would be something like:

1. Hemel (only slightly biased)
2. Brackley
3. Icknield
4. Reading - Sonning
5. Box End
6. Milton Keynes
7. Hillingdon
8. Culham

Just my twopenneth mind you...

I really should have spoken to Tom before I posted the above...

Okay, Tom's list is as follows:

1. Brackley
2. Culham - Tom enjoyed riding through the sand and the technical bits like the 'drop-off' (which he rode well)
3. Milton Keynes
4. Reading - Sonning
5. Box End
6. Icknield
7. Hemel - didn't like 'Sam's log' apparently...
8. Hillingdon

So the upshot is - ignore my previous post - bring it on - good sharpener for the Nationals the week after

Conall favours a return to Box End since the course was a good one with good features...and hopefully by now isn't flooded :)

Second choice would be MK venue and then Icknield

Culham was too gritty / mucky, especially when shared course route on motocross sections plus the field parking may be problematic if soggy ground.

cheers, Chris & Conall

Gidday all,
Been a hell of a week at work, up to me eye balls unforntunately. Got just a touch of Dams man flu as well.
Seems like we have side tracked this topic & all weighing in with our favourite tracks. May as well join the club then:

1- Woodhall Spa (Lancanshire)
2- Hemel Hempstead
3- Hog Hill (London)
4- Brackley
5- Hillingdon
6- Didcot
7- Herne Hill (London)
8- Box End Lane
9- Oxford (Wessex)
10- Redgrave (Eastern)
11- Milton Keynes
12- Cullham
13- St Ives (Huntingdon) - Eastern

There is some good news Paul, at least I'm not with the bunch who rated Culham as the worst!!! Now seriously, the first 8 listed here I'm definately doing again next year. 9-13 face the chop & will be looking for alternatives. I won't be at Culham on the 6th as my season will probably be ending on Sunday at Hillingdon.
