London Summer Series Finale

Postby Chrisbro » Tue Aug 20, 2013 3:21 pm

In the finale to the London Summer Series of cyclocross races, we went down to Herne Hill yesterday evening for the final race. Starting inside the recently restored track ( but not club house yet ) the races were well attended and all the Series sponsors turned up to add a bit of glitz to the evening.

Conall said the course was dry and had some tricky sections ( which caught a few people out, given a lot of punctures, a few crashes and injuries seen ) but was otherwise fast. The start and ending laps in the velodrome made it good to watch for spectators.

The Youth race was split quite early on, with Conall and 4 other riders ( Sutton, Halesowen & PMR and Team Darenth) getting away from the rest. Conall and the Halesowen & Team Darenth riders eventually got away and created a big gap by start of the 3rd lap, but not before Conall got cut up on exiting the Velodrome. This gave the Team Darenth rider a 20 metre gain and despite dropping the Halesowen rider before the end of the 3rd lap and chasing the Team Darenth rider into the velodrome on the final lap, the 20 metre gap persisted and Conall came in 2nd.

Having watched a huge field ride the Junior / Senior & Vets races it was dusk before presentations but the organisers had flood lights and Conall was introduced as the 'lad from Hemel Hempstead' to the crowd and was very happy with his moment in front of the Velodrome stand on the podium and a goodie bag from the race organisers - T Shirt, mini pump and neat musette bag to carry it all home!
