2011 Rás

Postby The Dunnes » Thu May 19, 2011 11:37 am

Conor is flying to Dublin on Saturday to ride for an Ireland Team in the Rás 8 day stage race which starts on Sunday. You can follow how he gets on during the week, by going to the link:
http://www.anpost.ie/AnPost/IrishCyclin ... e/Home.htm
This is a tough 8 days for Conor against good pro riders and he will be doing well to be riding back to Dublin next Sunday week still in the race.
For those of you that don't know this is the only UCI race in Ireland. Check the route it is 8 days of racing no rest day and about 29 category climbs.
There is a great interview on RTÉ Radio 1 Ireland, with the winner of the Rás in 1958, Mick Murphy.

It's called Convict of the road, it helps if you are Irish you have to listen well but stick with it. A great interview.
Also listen to John Herety, Directeur Sportif of the Rapha-Condor, to get the Englishman's view of the race.

Footnotes: Conor's ancestral home is Allenwood, the first sprint on stage one 36.5k into the race is Allenwood.
Rás is Gaelic for Race and is pronounced rhs not ras

Conor is doing well, currently in the top half of GC and performing a valuable role for his teams leader. Impressive for an 18yr old in a senior field of this quality IMO. Keep it up mate!
