Spring Chicken 2011

Postby Sam Williamson » Sun Jan 30, 2011 7:52 pm

Okay - I've entered my first ever bike race and hopefully the Race Director will find me a place on the start line :)

So, what are our team tactics going to be - an early break or hang on for the bunch sprint???

Seriously though, who's up for it and who's up for a few laps of the circuit before 'race day'? Perhaps a Saturday in Feb?

Anyone fancy showing a novice the way 'round?

Cheers

Sam

Race Director has a policy of always allowing Hemel riders in... 8)
So far it's just you and Ian Baynes who have entered. Richard Boley has also entered by now does RR for the Anders setup (although he's never done any RR's anyway).

I'm really looking forward to this - excitement and trepidation in equal measures.

Hopefully 'Team Williamson' will be there so if there's any help needed - tea making. marshalling etc. - you should have some willing helpers :)

I'll post on here when I'm going for a recce - maybe I'll get some company.

Cheers

Hi Sam
I think my best suggestion would be to do a couple of training events before the Spring Chicken to build up some experience of

1. Bunched racing
2. Change of pace

There are usually some Saturday races at Hillingdon late Feb that would be ideal. Something like this

or the last of the Winter series

Apart from that be prepared for the narrow nature of the course and don't be afraid to go on the attack in the final half of the race. You never know what will happen if you take the initiative.

Thanks Simon - I'll have a look at those Hillingdon races.

Sam I'd be happy to show you around the circuit sometime and give you the benefit of the knowledge I've gained of how to avoid winning it

Okay, a couple of us are meeting up at East and Botolph Claydon Village Hall at 1:30pm on Saturday 5th March (same day as the club dinner) to ride a few circuits of the course - if anyone (racing or not) wants to join in they're more than welcome.

Let us know you're coming and we'll wait for you.

Cheers

That'll be a nice warm up for the roller racing later that afternoon as a prelude to the dinner!

Sam my pick from a quick look at current entries for the Spring Chicken is Graham Warby - mark him!

Gav will be in a similar situation in the Roy Thame Cup... except with no team mates! :D
