Club Membership

The Hemel Hempstead Cycling Club is a non-profit organisation run by its members to promote their shared interest in the sport and pastime of cycling. Members principally come from around the Hemel Hempstead and surrounding West Herts area (Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Bovingdon, Tring and Watford).

Club members take part in many aspects of the sport: road, track, triathlon and off-road, organised rides, club runs, club competitions and open races. We have regular club rides every week, starting from Hemel Hempstead Railway Station, as well as special day trips during the spring and summer months to go further a field. For the past few years these have included a day on the Isle of Wight and visits across the channel to the French towns of Calais, Boulogne and Dieppe.

To help you decide if membership is right for you, you can join us for two club rides as a trial and see if you want to join.

Members 1
  • Over 90 years cycling experience. Started in 1933 with expertise and interest in all forms of cycle sports and activities
  • Loads of chance to take part in training, rides, social activities and races all year round with the support of like-minded people, whatever your fitness level (most of us are far from Elite!)
  • Chance to get involved with other club members on social trips to see the big races and try larger events

  • A monthly challenge "day out" ride in the summer
  • Mellow Monday recovery rides in the summer months
  • A monthly gravel ride exploring the bridleways and lanes

  • Sid Latchford TT - A challenging sporting time trial
  • Club Time Trials - A full summer of mid-week time trials to test yourself
  • The CX - Our October round of the brilliant Central Cyclo Cross league

Club membership is subject to a modest payment and is open to anyone:

Current Fees for Existing Members

  • Seniors (inc. 2nd claim & over 60): £20.00
  • Juniors (16 - 17yrs inc.): £10.00
  • Youth (Up to 15yrs inc.): £5.00
  • Family (1 adult & their children under 16yrs): £30.00
  • Family (2 adults & their children under 16yrs): £40.00

New Member Fees (prices include short sleeve road jersey or club clothing voucher)

  • Seniors (inc. 2nd claim & over 60) inc. SS jersey: £55.00
  • Juniors (16 - 17yrs inc.) inc. SS jersey: £45.00
  • Youth (Up to 15yrs inc.) inc. SS jersey: £40.00

Third Party Liability Insurance

The club strongly recommends that you also become a member of either British Cycling or Cycling UK to obtain their 3rd party liability insurance.  This would cover you in the event somebody makes a claim against you while you are cycling.

NOTE: Discounts are dependant on taking along a current proof of membership of Hemel Cycling Club or confirmation of membership at the time of booking eg: HHCC membership card, BC membership card or ETA membership card

Half Price Replacement Club Clothing in the Event of a Crash!

Crashes can happen and although there is not much the Club can do to speed the recovery of any bodily injuries that may have been sustained, we can soften the financial impact of having to replace your pristine HHCC jersey or shorts if they get ripped up.

The Club will give a 50% discount on the replacement of any items of club clothing less than 3 years old that get significantly damaged in a crash.

The Club retains the right to refuse this discount if it is not satisfied that the damage was sustained in an accidental crash or if the clothing is believed to have been bought more than 3 years previously. Also, the discount will only be offered on a like-for-like item of clothing.
